The Prevention and Treatment Of Gum Disease

My name is Hal Martin and at my last dental checkup my dentist told me that I had gum disease. My dentist gave me instructions about what I needed to do so that the gum disease wouldn't get worse and turn into periodontal disease. When I returned home, I immediately began learning everything I could about gum disease by reading dental articles online. I sure didn't want it to get worse so I knew that I needed to take action right away. In this blog, you'll learn all about gum disease including what it is, the causes and how you can help prevent it. I wanted to write this blog to get the word out to as many people about gum disease to hopefully help others have healthy gums.

The Advantages Of A Dental Bridge: Why You Might Want One

Having even a single tooth extracted can affect your smile, jaw line, and jaw bone health. Unfortunately, a missing tooth can create a gap where your remaining teeth may shift to fill the space. When this happens, it alters your bite, changes your smile, and can make it difficult for you to eat comfortably. That is why many dentists recommend a bridge for those who are missing a tooth or two. Here's a look at some of the things to consider when you're trying to decide if a dental bridge is right for you.

Easy Care

Perhaps one of the best parts of a dental bridge is how easy they are to take care of. You won't have to worry about soaking, scrubbing, and securing the bridge the same way you would with dentures. In fact, a dental bridge can be brushed and cared for the same way that you do your natural teeth, which saves you significantly in extra time and expense.

Natural Look

Another great thing about a dental bridge is that it secures in place well enough that you won't have to worry about it shifting or appearing as though it's out of place. That's a common challenge for people who wear dentures, especially while they are getting used to them. They can feel unnatural and sometimes appear that way, too. You don't have to worry about that with a bridge because it fits securely in position and won't shift or disrupt your natural tooth appearance.

Cost-Effective

Especially if you're only missing one tooth, your dentist may give you the choice between a bridge or a dental implant. Dental implants are a costly solution that won't typically fit everyone's budget. If you're trying to find a more cost-effective solution for your missing tooth, you should talk with your dentist about the benefits of a dental bridge. These appliances are more affordable, and they are quicker and easier to obtain because there's no surgery involved.

Long-Lasting

You'll find that most dental bridges will last you at least a decade, sometimes longer with careful care. If you're looking for a solution that won't have you running back to the dentist every couple of years for maintenance and repair work, a dental bridge could be just the thing.

These are just a few of the many reasons why people opt for dental bridges. If you're missing a tooth, you should ask your dentist about the possibility of a dental bridge to restore that functionality.
