The Prevention and Treatment Of Gum Disease

My name is Hal Martin and at my last dental checkup my dentist told me that I had gum disease. My dentist gave me instructions about what I needed to do so that the gum disease wouldn't get worse and turn into periodontal disease. When I returned home, I immediately began learning everything I could about gum disease by reading dental articles online. I sure didn't want it to get worse so I knew that I needed to take action right away. In this blog, you'll learn all about gum disease including what it is, the causes and how you can help prevent it. I wanted to write this blog to get the word out to as many people about gum disease to hopefully help others have healthy gums.

2 Tips That Will Help Your Dental Veneers Look Great

Has the time come to finally get the dental veneers that you have been thinking about? If so, you'll get that wonderful smile you have been wanting for quite some time. However, there are some decisions you need to make about your dental veneers to ensure that they look great. Making the wrong decision could cause you to get dental veneers that you are not quite happy with, so follow these two tips for the best results:

The Color

Dental veneers can be made in practically any shade of white you desire. Unfortunately, going with pure white is not going to be the best choice. You want a color that looks natural but doesn't look like they are slightly stained or dingy looking. Veneer color is not something that you can easily change, so make sure that you put a lot of consideration into the color shade.

Your dentist may have some tips about selecting the right color of white for your dental veneers. For instance, one trick to picking a color of natural looking white that is close to the color of your eyes. The two colors will actually look so natural that will have a reference of what a normal white color should look like.

The color of your eyes also will remain constant, while teeth can become discolored over time. You know that the veneers certainly won't get any whiter and look mismatched over time.

The Shape

With teeth coming in various sizes and shapes, these two factors play a big part in if veneers look real or fake. A common mistake is looking at veneers used by celebrities and trying to replicate the look. What looks good for one person may not look good for another.

Your dentist will help develop the shape of the dental veneers so that they are appropriate for you. For instance, long teeth are associated with younger people, so a dentist may not recommend veneers that are shorter than usual for someone in their early 20s.

A dentist will also look at the alignment of where all the teeth end and make sure that there are slight curves to each tooth. This will help the teeth look natural to others, rather than have a perfectly even and flat set of teeth that look too perfect to be real.
