The Prevention and Treatment Of Gum Disease

My name is Hal Martin and at my last dental checkup my dentist told me that I had gum disease. My dentist gave me instructions about what I needed to do so that the gum disease wouldn't get worse and turn into periodontal disease. When I returned home, I immediately began learning everything I could about gum disease by reading dental articles online. I sure didn't want it to get worse so I knew that I needed to take action right away. In this blog, you'll learn all about gum disease including what it is, the causes and how you can help prevent it. I wanted to write this blog to get the word out to as many people about gum disease to hopefully help others have healthy gums.

Tips For Fitting Dental Care Around Travel

If you are going to be going on vacation, then it's important for you to make sure you are prepared to take good care of your teeth while you are away from home and your regular dentist. Some of the things you want to do will take place before you ever leave for your vacation and others are things you will need to do while you are on it. Here are the tips for fitting your dental care around your vacation that you'll want to follow:

See your dentist before you leave

One of the first things you want to do is to make an appointment to get in to see your dentist as soon as you know you are going to be leaving for vacation. By calling ahead of time, you know they are going to be able to fit you in so you can be seen before you head out. You should get a thorough examination before you leave so you know whether or not there is anything that needs treatment and have the work done before you go on your vacation, if possible. You might even want to consider teeth whitening to give you a bright smile for those vacation photos.

Pack all the right supplies

Along with your tooth brush and tooth paste, you should also consider bringing along a small electric tooth brush kit. You can get one that has a lot of different tips to it besides the tooth brush tip. Having an electronic tooth brush with you on vacation will allow you to brush your teeth faster so you can to all that great sightseeing. It will also allow you to change the different tips so you can clean closer to your gum line and even buff your teeth so you can make them extra shiny looking before you head out.

Watch how you eat while you are on vacation

When you are on vacation it's easy to want to taste all of the local treats. This can be especially true if you are visiting a place known for their sugary goodies. You want to keep the health and well-being of your teeth in mind when you are out trying the local cuisine. If you can't refrain, then you should at least make sure that you are brushing and flossing your teeth more frequently while you are travelling. If brushing right away isn't going to be possible then there is another trick that you can use to help remove some of that sugar from your teeth and that is to chew some sugarless gum after you eat.
